The Controlled Environment Laboratory (CEL) consists of a state-of-the-art controlled-environment chamber (CEC) facility and associated laboratories to conduct basic and applied research with emphasis on the support of both ground and space applications. Controlled environmental parameters include air temperature, relative humidity, spectral quality and quantity, and carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration and are readily modified to support a wide range of user-defined environmental control requirements.

In addition, the laboratory maintains the technical expertise to facilitate research requiring the use of CECs. The laboratory also develops and maintains a centralized command, monitoring and data system (CMDS) with an associated database and alarming capabilities. CEC calibration and maintenance are provided, as well as orientation and training for researchers. The CEL is used to support the requirements of a variety of scientific research areas, including NASA, private industry, and academia.
